Hello my friends! I hope you are well and staying safe.
These are some complex times we’re going through but I have to say sewing projects along with this blog have been keeping me calm and productive. I’ve been self-isolating for a fair few weeks now for reasons I can’t really hide any longer - I’m growing a big ol’ baby!
I was initially going to make Ensemble’s Surtout Coat but after seeing the beautiful dot print cotton jersey in old green from Loubodu, I decided I had to get it and worry about the pattern later!
I don’t normally choose green colours but I’m so glad I moved away from my comfort zone, and it feels very fitting for this gorgeous Spring weather! The fabric is GOTS certified which gives it an organic status, meaning it has been produced with the environment in mind, using non-toxic stabilisers and ensuring it meets fair trade standards.
I decided on the Tilly and the Buttons Coco Dress as I love the simplicity of the pattern as well as the sleeve length and wonderful neckline. I also needed something that was going to stretch with me and feel comfortable while I’m stuck in the house: big double tick from me!
The construction was incredibly straight forward and, after testing the pattern first following the “plain top” version, I can confirm it looks just as lovely! I used my overlocker to finish the edges and my twin needles to hem, I think it gives the item a more professional look but neither are necessary for the pattern. If you decide to try out this pattern, Tilly has made it even easier by creating a sew-along post here: https://www.
I absolutely love the Coco Dress, and it’s an item I can also continue wearing post-pregnancy! This will be staying towards the top of my patterns pile and I’m sure I’ll have a colourful collection of Coco tops and dresses in my wardrobe in no time!
